Day 1: Nalemoru Gate (1,950m) – Simba Camp (2,650m)

After registration at Nalemoru Gate, begin trekking through farmlands and montane forest filled with monkeys and tropical birds. The climb is gentle as you reach Simba Camp, located near the edge of the moorland zone.

Day 2: Simba Camp – Second Cave (3,450m)

Continue trekking steadily upward through the moorland zone, enjoying expansive views of the plains below and Mawenzi Peak ahead. You’ll arrive at Second Cave Camp for hot lunch and rest surrounded by unique alpine vegetation.

Day 3: Second Cave – Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)

Today’s trek is short but steep as you climb up grassy slopes to Mawenzi Tarn Camp, located beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi Peak. The scenery is spectacular, and this area is ideal for acclimatization. Spend the afternoon relaxing or taking a short hike around the tarn.

Trek through switchbacks to Gilman’s Point (5,685m), then along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Capture breathtaking sunrise photos before descending back to Horombo Camp for rest.
