Kikuletwa Hot Springs Day Trip – Discover Tanzania’s Hidden Natural Oasis

Kikuletwa Hot Springs, also known locally as Chemka Hot Springs, is one of Tanzania’s most beautiful natural gems, located near the village of Rundugai. It lies between Arusha and Moshi, making it a perfect day trip destination from either town. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, passing through local villages, dry plains, and scenic landscapes.

Upon arrival, you’re welcomed by a lush green paradise, with crystal-clear, turquoise water surrounded by towering fig trees and palm vegetation. Despite the name “hot springs,” the water is more warm and refreshing than hot, maintaining a pleasant temperature between 25 to 30°C. This makes it ideal for swimming, relaxing, and even rope swinging into the deeper parts of the pool.

The depth of the spring varies, with some shallow areas for easy soaking, and deeper zones that reach around 8 to 10 meters for experienced swimmers. The clarity of the water is breathtaking—you can see the bottom, fish swimming around, and even your reflection as you float in the calm waters.

Kikuletwa Hot Springs is not just about the swim. It’s a peaceful escape from the bustle of towns or safari drives. The site is serene, offering shaded picnic spots, hammocks, and small local vendors selling snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. Many visitors choose to spend a full afternoon here—swimming, sunbathing, or enjoying local delicacies.

This location is also a cultural experience. You’ll likely pass Maasai villages along the way, and the guides often provide insight into local traditions and history. The area is safe, family-friendly, and perfect for both adventure seekers and those looking for relaxation.
